From the 5th to the 11th of July 2022, excluding weekends, a Training in Research Methodology for the Social Sciences has been conducted at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies, College of Business and Economics (AAU). Dr. Messay Mulugeta, Ph.D., from the Addis Ababa University College of Development Studies, led the training, which gathered 11 participants from various Social Science departments.
The course is designed to assist participants improve their research, writing, and publishing skills, and its content is relevant to conducting research in various disciplines of the Social Sciences. The training set was created to establish an intimate and dynamic platform where the instructor and participants could engage and explore each subject matter in depth. Post-training response from participants has been positive and inspiring.
The training is held regularly as part of the Capacity Building for the Centre of Excellence in Post-Conflict Societies Project. The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) support the project. The project began in January 2021 and will last through December 2023. The project’s main objective is to develop the research capacity of collaborating African universities, especially in the area of peace and security studies. This is mainly accomplished by providing technical and financial assistance to Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers. Addis Abeba University, Haramaya University, University of Hargeisa, Africa University, Protestant University of Central Africa, and Obafemi Awolowo University are the project’s collaborators.
