In 2012, Addis Ababa University and the University of Leipzig launched the Joint Master’s Programme in Global Studies with a special emphasis on Peace and Security in Africa. The initiative counts as the only joint programme offered with a German university in Africa in the social sciences. Globalization processes have implications for security in Africa, and linking peace and security to global studies creates an opportunity to analyze both the special and global dimensions of peace and security in Africa.
