IPSS Occasional Papers on Youth Peace and Security National Action Plans: Call for Contribution [Volume 02] to Youth Leaders and Youth-Led Organisations

19 August, 2024

On 4 – 5 June 2024 in Dakar Senegal, the Tana Forum Secretariat and Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) hosted the 2024 Pre-Tana Forum Youth Consultation. The event was themed – What’s Next: Aligning States And The African Youth. This was done in partnership with the African Union Youth for Peace Programme (AU Y4P) of the African Union Commission, Trust Africa, African Youth Commission (AYC), and GIZ African Union Office. This event led to the publication of the Volume 01 of IPSS Occasional Papers on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) National Action Plans (NAPs), and it targets policy makers, practitioners, especially youths, youth leaders, and youth-led CSOs who are actively engaged or intend to engage in the NAPs process of their respective countries at development or implementation stage. This publication compiled submissions from experts at the Tana Forum Secretariat; youth leaders from two countries that already have their YPS NAPs as of June 2024 (Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo – DRC), who actively contributed to the process in their respective countries; the African Youth Commission (AYC); and the AUY4P team.

Prioritising and recognising a lessons-learned and forward-looking approach to such discourse and the fact that many other AU member states are in the process (and some, final stages) of their NAPs, it became expedient to offer platform where policy makers and practitioners across AU member states may learn. Hence this call to contribute to the Volume 02, which targets the same audience and maintains the same vision.

Thus, the Research and Policy Analysis Unit of IPSS invites you to submit a 100 word abstract to indicate your interest to contribute. What we expect is a submission that is forward-looking and lessons-learnt oriented, presenting practical lessons from your experience in the development of YPS NAPs of your respective country. The paper should focus on key takeaways of your efforts and engagements related to the development of your country’s YPS NAPs, and broadly YPS issues that may impact or contribute to it.
