The workshop on the Migration, Urbanization and Conflict in Africa (MUCA) Research Project commenced on 25 April 2023, in Halifax Hall, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
The project is supported by the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI). It was initiated in January 2021 and will run until December 2023.
Researchers from the Centre of Excellence in Post-Conflict Societies at the Institution for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) are attending a workshop with counterparts from the University of Lagos in Nigeria, Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Sheffield in the UK.
The MUCA Research Project has the objective of exploring the migration, urbanization and conflict nexus in nine African cities in Ethiopia, Uganda and Nigeria. The cities covered by the research are: Kampala, Kasese and Gulu in Uganda; Addis Ababa, Hawassa and Jigjiga in Ethiopia; and Lagos, Lokoja and Jos in Nigeria. The collaborating universities for the project are Addis Ababa University, the University of Lagos, Makerere University, and the University of Sheffield.
The workshop is part of the ongoing work under the project and is expected to serve as a platform to help participants deepen their understanding of the MUCA Research Project. It will continue until 29 April 2023.
