Exploring African Peace and Security: A Journey with King’s University College, University of Western Ontario

A group of 16 students from King’s University College of the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada, embark on a transformative journey led by Prof. Thomas Tieku and Prof. Erin Hannah. Their destination: Africa, a continent pulsating with diverse cultures and complex geopolitical landscapes. With a mission to delve into peace and security policies and practices, the tour provides immersive experiences, forging connections with key international organizations such as the African Union, UNECA, and UNDP, along with think tanks like FES, Amani Africa, and IPSS.

At the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), the students eagerly absorb insights into the Institute’s pivotal work particularly focusing on its work in the Horn of Africa. Briefed on various peace and security topics, they gain a deeper understanding of geopolitical developments shaping the region’s dynamics. As they navigate through this enriching journey, each interaction becomes a stepping stone towards a deeper respect for Africa’s complex landscape of peace and security, as well as the endeavors towards African-lead solutions.
