Delegates from ASEAN Cooperation Directorate Visit IPSS

On 1 December 2025, IPSS met with a delegation from the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation of Indonesia in Addis Ababa. The session brought together senior representatives from both sides to review regional security approaches and explore practical steps for cooperation between ASEAN and the AU.

The meeting supported direct exchange on peace and security work in Africa and Southeast Asia. Both sides reviewed how regional organizations respond to rising threats and how institutions support early warning, crisis response, and peacebuilding. IPSS outlined approaches used within the AU system, with focus on the Peace and Security Council and its tools for prevention. The Indonesian delegation shared ASEAN perspectives on regional coordination and described priority areas for stronger engagement.

The discussion highlighted clear opportunities for joint learning. The delegates expressed interest in the AU early warning mechanism as a model for stronger regional systems. The session set a foundation for continued communication between IPSS and the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, with attention to future activities that support stability across both regions.
