Pan-African Policy Brief Series
The SOAS Centre for Pan-African Studies (CPAS) and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University invite you to contribute to our Pan-African Policy Brief Series. The primary goal of this series is to offer in-depth analyses and evidence-based recommendations aimed at addressing the immediate regional and continental challenges affecting Africa. It seeks to connect research to policy and foster communication of ideas between scholars and practitioners in African governments, African multilateral organizations, diasporan organizations, and international partners, with the goal of impacting policy and actions through the knowledge-production process. We aim to depart from abstract aspirations and, instead, seek to provide concrete, evidence-supported recommendations to improve the effectiveness of decision-making. This policy brief series aims to promote realistic policymaking.
We kindly invite you to submit policy brief abstracts (300 words) on topics that focus on addressing addressing current and pressing political, social, and economic issues and policies that are relevant to African or African diasporan communities. We are particularly interested in topics that tackle urgent problems, and/or important, neglected issues that require immediate action.
Scope: We encourage contributions that address continental and regional issues, as well as national issues that hold significance for regions, the continent, or African diasporans.
Pan-African Approach: We encourage approaches that promote pan-African collaboration, broadly defined as methods that amplify African agency and underscore the importance of solidarity and collaborative pathways to address common challenges.
Target Audience: Policy briefs should aim to inform African government policymakers and decision-makers in continental and regional organizations. The primary objective of the policy brief should be to convince the target audience of the urgency of the issue and the need for adopting an alternative course of action.
We will provide guidelines on the structure and style of policy briefs to authors upon acceptance of their abstracts.

Deadline for abstract submission: 31 January 2024.
The policy brief will be published on the websites of The SOAS Centre for Pan-African Studies and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University and compiled in print for dissemination to policymakers. We will provide a modest honorarium.
