The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University invites applications from qualified individual translators and translation firms to provide on-call professional translation services (English ↔ French) during the period 24 August to 31 December 2026.
The selected translator(s) or firm(s) will be engaged on an as-needed basis to support the translation of institutional, academic, and policy-related documents. Selection under this call does not guarantee a minimum volume of work.
Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of four (4) years of proven professional translation experience, preferably in academic, policy, or international development settings;
- Native or near-native proficiency in both English and French;
- Strong knowledge of terminology related to peace, security, governance, development, and international affairs;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, high-quality translations within agreed deadlines;
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and attention to detail.
Scope of Work
The selected translator(s) and/or firm(s) will provide translation, editing, proofreading, and quality assurance services for a range of IPSS materials, including:
- Research publications and reports
- Policy briefs and concept notes
- Press releases and communication materials
- Training manuals and workshop materials
- Event and conference documents
- Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), agreements, and official correspondence
- Meeting minutes
- Other institutional documents, as required
Application Requirements

- A current CV (for individual applicants) or company profile (for firms) highlighting relevant experience.
- Samples of previous translation work, where available.
- A financial proposal indicating professional rates (per word, per page, or per document, as applicable), clearly specifying the English ↔ French language pair.
- Estimated turnaround times for translation assignments.
- Contact details for at least two professional references.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed based on the applicants’ qualifications, relevant experience, quality of previous work, and financial proposal. IPSS reserves the right to select one or more individual translators and/or translation firms under this call.
