26 October, 2023

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies’ Education and Professional Development Unit (EPD) is delighted to announce the commencement of the 19th Executive Master’s Programme in Managing Peace and Security in Africa (MPSA). This programme is designed to provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to tackle Africa’s unique peace and security challenges in a globalized world. The 25 participants of the 19th cohort come from different African Union member states, as well as continental and multilateral organizations, representing diverse backgrounds. This Africa-wide participation exhibits the Pan-African enthusiasm and cooperative endeavors to advance African peace and security.

The 19th cohort of our programme boasts impressive diversity, with participants hailing from 13 countries:  Burundi, Chad, Ethiopia, Guinea, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and Zambia. We are pleased to report that gender balance is a key priority for us, and we are delighted to have achieved a commendable female-to-male ratio of 36% (9 female participants) and 64% (16 male participants) in this cohort. This representation speaks to our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and advancing gender equality in peace and security initiatives on the continent.

Professor Kenneth Omeje, a visiting Professor from the University for Peace (UPEACE) and an Extraordinary Professor at the School of Government Studies, North-West University (NWU), South Africa, will facilitate the first session for the 19th cohort.

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies extends a warm welcome to all participants of the 19th cohort. We are confident that this transformative learning experience will equip you with the tools to effectively address Africa’s peace and security challenges while nurturing your professional development.
