SUMMARY:Rethinking Securitisation of Public Health in Africa: A Frame of Reference
DESCRIPTION:Register:     \nThe UNDP Human Development report (1994) is the first global effort to expand the purview of security thinking beyond armed conflicts to address other human development challenges\, including hunger\, poverty\, health\, among others. This report paved way for human security conversation in the international system. Specifically\, the UN Security Resolution 2439 that declared the spread of Ebola virus “a threat to international peace and security”\, served as the starting point for the interactions between health and security. This resolution did not just serve as a basis for securitizing infectious diseases\, it further paved way for the dangerous relations between politics and health….Read More

SUMMARY:Security Crisis in the Horn of Africa
DESCRIPTION:Click here to download – Concept Note | Agenda \nTo Register Click here – Day 1: Feb. 04\, 2022 | Day 2: Feb. 05\, 2022 \nThe Horn of Africa\, which has been a hot spot in the global system since the end of the Second World War\, is currently facing a serious security crisis. When Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power in April 2018\, Ethiopia and the rest of the countries of the Greater Horn of Africa saw a ray of hope that both Ethiopia and the region would address their chronic security challenges.  Abiy’s early reforms attempted to arrest Ethiopia’s many conflicts and to promote peaceful nation building and democratization.  He released political prisoners and expanded civil liberties\, including freedom of press and organization. He also invited the country’s mostly ethnic-based armed rebel groups to make peace with his government and pursue their political agenda through the political process. Many responded positively\, which signaled the replacement of violent armed struggle by peaceful political struggle as a venue for bringing political changes in the country… Read more
