The Horn of Africa is a strategic region connecting with the Gulf through the narrow strip of the Red Sea. States and peoples of the region experience diverse forms of vulnerabilities and opportunities in terms of security, conflict, and development, both with considerations of internal dynamics and interplay with immediate and faraway neighbours. Over the past decade, the Horn of Africa has been undergoing rapid and dramatic political trends owing to domestic factors with implications for the whole region and on extra-regional economic and security influences.
