Measuring Our Peace: Towards An African Peace Index

13 June 2024 - 14 June 2024

Do you know that:

  1. There is no Index developed by Africans and African institutions to measure peace in Africa?
  2. Existing indexes do not offer disaggregated and inclusive data at a more granular and local levels to identify areas of interest to support Early Warning Systems, early actions and interventions?
  3. Existing indexes do not provide sufficient assistance to policy makers to obtain lessons-learned data?
  4. Existing indexes do not often cover the human-security nuances of various contexts on the continent?
  5. Existing indexes do not isolate Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities as they focus on global comparisons rather than best-fit indicators.

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) and Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) therefore invites Africa’s civil society to the maiden consultation as we commence this journey to develop an African Peace Index (API), to measure our peace.
