IPSS PhD student named to Ethiopian cabinet

12 October 2015

H.E. Abiy Ahmed, a candidate of the regular PhD programme at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), was last week appointed to the new cabinet named by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegne.

H.E. Abiy is now the Minister for Science and Technology in the PM's new cabinet of twenty six ministers and four cabinet members.

"The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) is only eight years old," commented IPSS Director Kidane Kiros. "But our graduates and even current students continue to rise to some of the country's key challenges. We are proud of his excellency Abiy's appointment to this important post in the Ethiopian government."

The news comes three weeks after US President Barack Obama accredited Ahmed Issa Awad, a graduate of the Executive Masters in Managing Peace and Security in Africa (MPSA) programme at the IPSS, as Somalia ambassador to the US.
